Our ears help us to detect sounds. Sounds are vibrations through solids, liquids, and gases. Sound vibrations travel in different ways through different materials. During this Mission, you and your Science Buddy will construct a Screaming Sting Thing from a cup and some string.

I would suggest that you try different types of string and different types of cups to see if you get different sounds.
Another option is to make a REALLY long string that you can hold under your foot, then pluck the string like a harp or guitar string. You have made a giant stringed instrument!
Don't forget to record your Mission in a Mission Report!
You can also have your Science Buddy help you make a comment to this post. Share different things that you have tried or new things that you have learned. You can earn BrainPower Tickets by making a helpful comment to this post! Make sure to give your first name, last initial, and grade for next year (for example: Linda P. (4)) so I know who you are!
