How to Set Up Mission Reports?
An important part of science is recording what you did and what you discovered.
Remember, For each Mission Report you complete and turn in in September, you can earn a Brain Power Points. For each Mission you add a comment to say what you learned, you can earn a Brain Power Points. There are other ways you an earn points too! Look at the Brain Power Points Page to see how to earn points and and go up in your Explorer level!
Choose one of the methods below to help you keep track of the explorations you do this summer. Remember, the purpose of these reports is to help you keep track of your discoveries and share them with others.

#1 - Binder
Keep a binder or folder of Mission Reports that you have printed for each Mission. The Mission Reports include spaces to record what you did, what happened, and what you learned. Click on the document below to open it in a new window. Download it and print is as many times as you need.

#2 - Bound Notebook / Journal
You can keep a science journal in which you write down what you did, what happened, and what you discovered.
If you do this, please remember to date each experiment page and have your Science Buddy sign it. Also, it helps to keep it organized if you keep all your writing on the right side of your notebook and add drawings to the left side. You can also paste the Mission Discovery Reports into your journal to keep them all together.

#3 Digital Portfolio
If you have an iPad, smartphone, or tablet, this is very easy to do. As long as you can share them with me in a way I can review them. Take pictures or make a video of what you do. Record your descriptions by pointing them out.
I would recommend that you and your Science Buddy make a digital science portfolio using something like VoiceThread, Evernote, Google Drive or DropBox. Each of these has an iPad app and an online app.
Your adult Science Buddy will have to set up an account.
I would recommend VoiceThread first for ease of use, sharing, and flexibility. Every GSB Lower School student also has their own account that if you email me, I can send you that information (please give me a few days to get back to you). Most students in the Lower School have had some experience with this app.

#4 Mixed Learning Log
You can mix up these different methods. You can create digital records that you print OR you can scan things that you write or draw. You can make a Mission Report and make a video of your conclusions. There are many different options to keep track of your explorations. The two important things are, to keep a record of what you do and to be able to share what you have done.

It is two pages and asks you to explain what you did, what happened, and what you discovered. You are also encouraged to explore other ways to do the experiment and try new things with the materials you are exploring. Please add notes about your explorations to the last section.
